Best of the West

The top cities of the Western U.S. that rank as “Best of the West” include Palm Springs, California in the most recent issue of Sunset Magazine.  A city reimagining its present and future, Palm Springs new downtown is evolving to embrace a new, energetic vibe.

A perennially sunny city nestled at the foot of the majestic San Jacinto mountains, and only two hours from Los Angeles, Palm Springs is drawing more than weekenders and snowbirds. Throw in palm-lined streets, James Beard award-winning restaurants, midcentury architecture, and modern housing communities for the next generation, and it’s evident that Palm Springs has retained its mix of charm, design and friendly attitude, while redefining its youthful vitality.

“Palm Springs has always been considered a top getaway, but with the renaissance of the city, visitors just don’t want to leave,” says Mary Jo Ginther, Director of the Palm Springs Bureau of Tourism. “The year-round beautiful weather combined with an easy, outdoor lifestyle is irresistible, and as downtown adds new businesses, it will only add to the allure.”

To read about Palm Springs as a great place to play and live, visit Sunset Magazine.  Sunset Magazine shares the best of life in the West, with nearly five million readers, and is passionate about showcasing the region’s unique lifestyle and noteworthy destinations.

Named #8 out of “20 Game-Changing Places to Live,” Sunset Magazine writes of Palm Springs:

“Palm-lined streets, James Beard Award–winning restaurants, and mid-century architecture are drawing more than weekenders and snowbirds to Palm Springs. Downtown revitalization is under way, as are modern housing communities for the next generation.

Tropicale Restaurant Palm Springs

Six restaurants in Palm Springs have been ranked in OpenTable.com’s “100 Best Al Fresco Dining Restaurants in America 2017.” These awarded restaurants are a reflection of more than 10 million combined opinions from submitted reviews by verified OpenTable diners, which cover a range of over 25,000 restaurants across the United States.

In no particular order, the winning Al Fresco restaurants from Palm Springs includes: Copley’s on Palm Canyon, Jake’s, Le Vallauris, Miro’s Restaurant, Spencer’s Restaurant, and The Tropicale. Restaurants were ranked according to OpenTable’s grading scale: “Qualifying restaurants were then scored and sorted according to the percentage of reviews for which ‘great for outdoor dining’ was selected as a special feature.”

Out of the states that made the best 100, California boasts with 29 top restaurants, followed by Florida closely behind with 28, and Arizona with 22.

“While many of the winning restaurants serve American fare, other cuisines proved popular, particularly Italian, Mediterranean, and seafood,” stated the OpenTable article. Ironically, of the six Palm Springs restaurants ranked, not one restaurant falls under one sole cuisine category. Whether it’s Jake’s Ribs or Miro’s Branzino, these Palm Springs restaurants present diverse menus, which greatly enhance the overall dining experience, inside or outside.

California’s prominence on OpenTable’s Best Al Fresco Dining rankings is no surprise, but it is worth noting that the 6 awarded Palm Springs Restaurants make up over 20% of the California restaurants on the list.

The 29th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival: That's a Wrap!

Fabulous, darlings, fabulous! If you attended the 29th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival then you know exactly what I mean. Now, of course, one does not live on films alone…particularly in Palm Springs.

So in addition to film festival-ing, I also stayed busy hiking, dining with friends, shopping, exploring, and spending some gorgeous time relaxing around pools, Jacuzzis, hammocks, and fire pits (as one does […]
